Elaine Adevai, Staten Island, NY 

Ms. Adevai earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medical Studies from Douglass College in 1967, before graduating with a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 1970. She immediately embarked on a rewarding career in psychology which has spanned three decades. Seven years ago, Elaine founded New Vista, which is the highlight of her illustrious career. 
Ms. Adevai maintains her professional network and continues to further her clinical development through membership in the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Human Resources Administration and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. She is the 2009 recipient of the Distinction Award from the Staten Island Chapter of World of Women, and would like to be remembered as a caregiver that did her best to help domestic violence victims start a new life.

Elaine Adevai is the executive director of New Vista for Families, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy, counseling and shelter for victims of domestic violence. A licensed psychologist with more than 30 years of experience, Ms. Adevai is a recognized expert in individual and group counseling, as well as educational administration. She is uniquely qualified to lead New Vista into the future.

Ms. Adevai’s daily role at New Vista entails overseeing operations of the domestic violence shelter, which includes training and supervising staff, developing programs, providing counseling and advocacy services and arranging new permanent housing for her clients. In addition, Elaine spends time maintaining communications and relations with the community to solicit donations to the shelter. She attributes her success to her perseverance and communication skills. Going forward, Ms. Adevai hopes to expand the program to accommodate more families in need.
