Dr. Alvin Trivelpiece

Dr. Alvin Trivelpiece, retired Director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), former Executor Officer of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and former Director of the Office of Energy Research, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has been recognized as one of Newsworthy Publishing’s Top 101 Outstanding Professionals of 2017. Throughout his career, Dr. Trivelpiece has been a professor of physics and a corporate executive. His research focused mainly on plasma physics, controlled thermonuclear research, and particle accelerators. He also holds several patents on accelerators and microwave devices.

In May 2000, Dr. Trivelpiece was serving as an advisor to various government laboratories and agencies as well as serving as a committee chair. Dr. Trivelpiece was also instrumental in the implementation of the Human Genome Project after reviewing reports by Charles DeLisi in 1987. Due to his support and financial acumen, the project received funding and led to the sequencing of the human genome.
